Will serve as a clearinghouse for the various and widespread community and government programs already in existence in Leon County. Visit the website regularly to get information on upcoming tree related events, browse historical trees on an interactive map, or participate in contests that provide opportunities to learn more about the trees in your own backyard.
A Community Hub.
Here you'll learn about the importance of trees to our quality of life and about the types of trees that make our neighborhoods and overall community unique. We encourage and promote the planting of native trees species to the coastal plain and encourage the preservation of those trees that hold aesthetic and historical value to our community.
It all started when Leon County government and Village Square hosted a Club of Honest Citizens event at a local coffee shop. The event invited attendees to share ideas on new and meaningful ways to engage citizens while shaping the community.
What grew was the idea of a Historical Tree database, later named Leon Trees, where the community could learn more about the trees that make Leon County unique. In partnership with Leon County, Village Square, City of Tallahassee, Florida State University Environmental Service Program, Cornerstone Learning Community and the local arborist community, a grass roots organization of citizens are leading the way to promote and protect one of Leon County's most historic resources. Leon Trees is dedicated to expanding and fostering the natural tree canopy of our county.
